Trout Fishing Technique - 5 Tips To Improve Your Trout Fishing Technique

Trout fishing is one of many yous favorite because of the fact that they are abundant just about anywhere. There are many type of trout, and your trout fishing technique should change depending on your location.

For instance Brook Trout habitat is from Labrador to Saskatchewan and the Rainbow Trout are natives of the Pacific Region from Alaska to California.

However, Brown trout had recently been found in waters of every state in the United States with the exception of Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Arkansas, and Florida. There have been some report of Brown Trout in waters of some of these states but no authentic reports have been received by any conservation officials. They are also found in many parts of Canada.

In order to be successful when trout fishing, there are some factors that should be considered.

1.  Trout are very aware of their environment, so when fly fishing for trout, you don’t want the line to float on the top of the water. If it does, it will cast a shadow on the bottom of the stream and that could easily frighten the trout. So in order to get your leader to sink a little, it should not be greased.

2.  Usually trout are caught with the use of a dry fly in either the current or pools of streams. Also you should be sure to fish the lower end of pools first even though the trout appear to be rising or jumping in the middle or upper end of the pool.

3.  The best practice is to try to cast from one side of the stream so that only the fly floats over the fish. It is not a good trout fishing technique to have the entire fly, line and leader float directly over the fish for the same reason as Tip #1. It might frighten the fish.

4.  Because they are such an aware fish, it is very important to make the first cast the best cast. If the trout is feeding, they will usually strike the first time the fly is presented.

5.  Sometimes trout can be lethargic or very selective. So when they are, you might have to try a variety of flies, from one with less hackles to a fan wing or spent-wing fly.

Remembering these trout fishing techniques and having some patience will reward you. Trout fishing is a lot of fun and can be enjoyed all year round in most areas.

May your line never dry and your net always be full.
